This nymph with its high contrast colors and lifelike rubber legs is the go-to fly when stonefly nymphs are the primary item on a trout’s menu.  The stonefly nymph is a big fly that often produces big fish. The stonefly nymph is a staple food for trout in many rivers and streams. In several color varieties, the stonefly spends from one to four years of its life underwater growing to their large size. Being one of their heartier meals, trout readily take stonefly nymphs when fished at or near the bottom.
